India - Elephanta Caves

"The 'City of Caves', on an island in the Sea of Oman close to Bombay, contains a collection of rock art linked to the cult of Shiva. Here, Indian art has found one of its most perfect expressions, particularly the huge high reliefs in the main cave."

The famous Elephanta Caves is located on an island near Mumbai. One of most well known sculpture shown in the postcard is that of Hindu God Shiva who is the creator, protector and destroyer - the transformer of the universe. Beautiful stamps used. Thanks to Sita for sending from Mumbai, India.
